Cooking Quinoa Is Easy

Quinoa is sold packed as a dry seed and cooks in about 15 minutes.

Step 1: Quinoa + Liquid

Combine quinoa in a pot with water or stock. I used organic chicken stock for this demonstration. Use a 2:1 ratio of liquid to quinoa.  We’re hosting dinner with my in-laws tonight so I used 2 cups of quinoa and 4 cups of chicken stock.

Step 2: Apply Heat

Turn the stove’s element on high heat and bring to a boil uncovered. Be sure to stir occasionally to prevent any quinoa from sticking to the bottom of the pot.

Step 3: Cover And Let Cook

Once you have achieved a rolling boil cover the pot and turn down the heat to the low setting. Let the quinoa cook for 15 minutes. The quinoa will expand to more than double it’s original size, absorbing all of the liquid in the process.

Step 4: Cool And Enjoy

Remove the pot from heat and cool for 5 minutes. Now all that’s left is to transfer to a plate and enjoy :). The cooked quinoa is light and fluffy but packs a powerful nutritional punch that will satisfy your hunger. If you use chicken stock you will notice that the quinoa will take on some of its flavor. I use quinoa in place of any rice dish. Yesterday I enjoyed my quinoa with butter chicken.

Cook Extra

Quinoa keeps in the fridge for 5 days so cook up some extra and you’ll have some for breakfast or lunch too.
